We are not really in penguin land, but it sure feels like it. It is cold here, really really cold. Yesterday morning at Terry Peak it was -14 with a wind chill of -30 at the bottom of the ski slopes and -48 at the top. Currently it has warmed up to minus 12 here at the house. Early this morning we had a low of minus 28 with a wind chill of minus 46. It is hard to remember that last Friday we were in the 50s and will be in the high 30s on Thursday and then more snow and cold for the weekend. We have had around 124 inches of snow so far this season and our snowiest months are usually March and April.
Now, as some of you know I like snow and that means I have to accept the cold that goes with it, but when it gets to cold to snow I draw the line. Going outside is a real chore since it takes forever to layer up (lined jeans, snow board pants, long johns, sweatshirt, fleece, lined coat, gloves, hat, face mask, snow goggles, snow boots, toe warmers and hand warmers) so no skin is exposed. This weather can cause frostbite on exposed skin in less than five minutes.
There is one of us who doesn’t mind this weather at all and that one is Buddy dog. He loves the snow and does not seem to mind the cold. We do have to limit the amount of time he spends outside though. He, of course, wants one of us to come out and play with him which sadly for him is not happening a lot these last few days. I did go out for a little while this morning with him so he could indulge in his favorite game of apple toss. Once he has eaten the apple I get to go in.
We hope where ever you are you are you are enjoying or at least tolerating the weather you are having …
